Barbur World Foods Helps Nourish Our Diverse Community

When it comes to sourcing food for our Free Food Market, we typically rely on Oregon Food Bank to provide much of the fresh and frozen meat our community counts on. But with recent funding cuts to OFB, we’ve had to get creative—often turning to grocery stores where prices are much higher.

That’s when Barbur World Foods stepped in.

Thanks to their generosity, we’re now able to purchase around 80 pounds of halal meat every month—enough to support 30 families. Even better? They offer it to us at a substantial discount.

This contribution is more than financial support—it’s cultural care in action.

At Neighborhood House, we believe food should not only nourish the body but also honor the identities and traditions of those we serve. Barbur World Foods’ ongoing support helps us do just that.

The connection was made by a thoughtful volunteer who recognized a need and stepped up to bridge the gap. Because of that effort, dozens of families each month are receiving high-quality, culturally relevant food—something they might otherwise go without.

We’re incredibly grateful to Barbur World Foods for standing with us, and to the volunteer who helped make this partnership possible. It’s a powerful reminder of what can happen when local businesses and community members come together to meet a need.

This truly is community at its best.
