Helping Neighbors Thrive Through Community Health Efforts

Our community health efforts are integral to building a stronger, healthier community. By connecting families to essential resources and nutritious food, we help create pathways to long-term well-being.

– Hannah Lee, Director of Community Health and Director of Development

At Neighborhood House, we are always looking for new ways to support our neighbors. From helping older adults stay active and connected to making sure families have food and support when they need it, our Community Health programs are here to help people feel healthy, safe, and supported.

At The Center 55+, we are adding new activities, clubs, classes, and trips that give older adults more ways to connect and have fun. Fitness classes, book clubs, Movie Days, Medicare 101 workshops, and Conversations on Aging are just some of what is happening at The Center. Favorites like Brunch at The Center and Song Circle are also back. In addition, we have also welcomed a new Center Coordinator who brings experience, energy, and a passion for helping older adults. They are already helping us create even more ways for our community to connect and thrive. Our Food Security Program continues to meet a growing need for food. Every week, our team prepares and delivers 250 food boxes, reaching more than 380 households each month.

In our first month at the new location, more than 3,000 shoppers visited the Free Food Market, nearly 1,000 more than we typically serve. We anticipate this level of demand will become the new normal moving forward. As the need grows, we are working to build new partnerships and find more ways to make sure everyone has access to nutritious food.

We have also launched our Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) Program, which helps people get the support they need to stay safely housed before a crisis happens. We are building this new team with the help of two wonderful staff members, Marjan Anvari and Mashid Erfanfard. Their knowledge, care, and commitment are helping us create a strong foundation for this important new program.

Together, these programs show what Community Health is all about: meeting people where they are, building connections, and helping our neighbors live healthier and more stable lives.
