Standing With Our Community Amid Increased I.C.E. Activity

With recent I.C.E. activity increasing in Portland and across the country, many of our neighbors are feeling scared and uncertain. At Neighborhood House, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen.

During this time, we are taking a clear stand against injustice and reaffirming our commitment to our immigrant community. We want our neighbors to know where we stand, how we are showing up, and that you are not alone.

Our Commitment

At Neighborhood House, we believe that every person deserves access to essential services, a safe environment, and the ability to build a life without fear. We stand firm in our commitment to serving all members of our community, regardless of immigration status, with dignity, respect, and safety.

Where We Stand

  • We believe that places where people seek help, whether for shelter, food, employment support, health and social services, or community building, should be safe, accessible, and free from fear of deportation or separation.

  • We oppose indiscriminate immigration enforcement actions in community service settings. We reaffirm our role as a sanctuary-rooted community organization. As part of Portland’s broader community, we align with the principles of Oregon’s Sanctuary Promise Law and uphold the rights and protections it affords.

  • We refuse to cooperate with unlawful demands for personal data or presence by immigration enforcement agents. We will only comply with lawful court orders or warrants, and we will assert legal protections for our clients, staff, and sites.

If you are a client, community member, or someone seeking help, you are welcome here. You have the right to seek services, ask for support, and feel safe in our spaces. If you ever see ICE activity, feel threatened, or need help, please reach out. We will support you and connect you with legal and community resources including the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC) hotline (1-888-622-1510) to ensure you know your rights and have help. (Portland.gov). You are part of our community, and we are here for you.
