“Investing in child care means investing in children, families, and the future of our entire community”
– Meera Batra, Child Care Improvement Project Program Manager
Neighborhood House’s CCIP and OCCA programs are helping child care providers build strong, lasting businesses. Through coaching, licensing support, training, and connections with other providers, these programs help child care owners grow their businesses while providing care for children in their communities.
CCIP works closely with immigrant and culturally specific child care providers, offering support in 19 languages. This year, CCIP served 98 child care businesses across the Tri-County area and supported 21 culturally specific cohorts, representing nearly 1,000 child care slots. OCCA is expanding this work across Oregon, with 191 active members in 15 counties and seven regions. Together, these programs help providers strengthen their businesses, meet licensing requirements, and create more child care opportunities for families.
We are also proud that CCIP is part of Business Oregon’s Technical Assistance for Underrepresented Businesses Program. This program helps trusted community organizations connect underserved business owners with resources and support. CCIP’s place in this program helps us reach more child care providers and bring more resources into the communities we serve.
Our teams are also taking this work beyond our programs. CCIP and OCCA staff have been attending and speaking at conferences, workshops, and community events across Oregon. They are sharing what we have learned, supporting other organizations, and building partnerships with groups that share our goal of strengthening child care across the state.
This work is especially important as families across Oregon continue to face a shortage of affordable and accessible child care. By supporting the people who provide care, we are helping create stronger child care businesses and more opportunities for children and families. Our goal is simple: help child care providers succeed so they can continue serving the communities that need them most.
